What? No Jan van Eyck here? Must put that right.
First, Adam and Eve, originally separated by the work, here together.
Such claustrophobic trompe l’oeil alcoves, and Eve lets her fig leaf hang down, as if it is no longer worth the effort. Her right hand holds a citrus fruit.
Next, the so-human angels from the side panels, with their human musical instruments.
John the Baptist and Mother Mary
And The Almighty: Not one person of the trinity, but the whole trinity.
Lovely! Thanks, Clare! xx 🙂

Well, I need some beauty to season the whining, otherwise no-one might come here.

The expressions on the faces! Bleauu. Do you know why? I wonder what it was supposed to convey.

I think it is more a Dutch 15th century thing than a commentary on Heaven. Have a look at the Arnolfini Wedding. Watching telly recently I wondered if there were recognisably Australian variations on facial expressions.
