Michael Leunig

I think it is a shame that Michael Leunig’s work is not in print in the UK at the moment. The best chance of getting his books is on Abe from Australia. He is delightful.

I got to know of him through this verse:

There are only two feelings: love and fear.
There are only two languages: love and fear.
There are only two activities: love and fear.
There are only two motives, two procedures,
two frameworks, two results: love and fear.
Love and fear.

It is just true. 1 John 4:18: “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear”. I cannot live in fear any more. It is uncreative. It restricts me, it prevents me from doing what I need to do. It is time to see and act in Love. When I respond in fear, I am not really seeing the other person. I need Love in order to see the other person.

Let us live in such a way
that when we die
our love will survive
and continue to grow.
Amen.

  1. Now, I can subscribe to that. I have just started doing readings on Sundays Sunday 4th Sept was my first reading aloud to the congregation and it was from the letter of Paul to the Romans

“Owe no one anything, except to love one another,
for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law

The commandments, “you shall not commit adultery.
    You shall not murder,
    You shall not steal,
    You shall not covet,
are summed up in this word
    “Love your neighbour as yourself.”

Love does no wrong to a neighbour,
therefore love is the fulfilling of the law

Sounds like pretty simple and wonderful advice to me
