If you google for “tranny blog”, that is the kind of thing you will see. Human beings used as sex objects for men to look at and masturbate. Pictures of people with breasts and penises portrayed as freaks. So one reason I have for using the word Tranny here is to figure in such searches, so that I might engage with the people who look there. My top four search terms are “tranny blog“, “Durga“, “Clare Flourish” and “trans sex“.

Danae, an Invitation to Love

Quemcumque miserum videris, hominem scias, says the Royal Life Saving Society, which teaches pool attendants and lifeguards on beaches. Whomsoever you see in distress, recognise a fellow human being. No, this could not be your mother or your sister, objectified in this way, so that argument is useless. How else might you recognise me?

A human being, degraded for your enjoyment, used as a thing. Does that stir your empathy at all? Do you really want to trample on other people? Is that how you see yourself, in a War against the world, pushing people out of the way, standing on them if it gets what you want?

Mirror, Mirror

But wait. Imagine they could look through your webcam and see you at 3am, engrossed and engorged and entrapped, addicted- led by your dick- alone, ashamed and frightened in case anyone knew you did this disgusting thing, yet unable to resist, unable to switch off, compelled to return again and again to a thing which gives no pleasure, assuages no need, is an illusion. Are you really that Strong Man who can use anyone at will, or are you being used, powerless to resist? You are like Jeannie and Laura, entrapped by the Goblins. (Do look at the link, it is beautiful.)

I use the word “tranny” as in “I am a tranny” because I am free. It has no power to hurt me. I know I am worthy of self-respect, and no mere word, no easy judgment, can take that away from me. I have some concern because I know that the word is still used to hurt others, and it does in fact hurt my kind- so I object to Outsiders using it. Show respect. Hominem scias: recognise my humanity, so that you may recognise your own.

  1. My new approach is to take the Tango perspective and just say “thank you” to insults and compliments alike.
    Blunt and straight foreward.
    Thank you Clare 🙂

  2. This is a very powerful post! I’ve learned in life that every person I meet is a unique being that deserves respect (until they might show that they are undeserving of such respect, but, luckily, this doesn’t happen in real life often, happens on the internet much more often unfortunately). I think you’re right on with the idea that you can turn the insults on their heads and use them for empowerment while outsiders should avoid using them. Being an “outsider”, I continue to check my language so that I’m not hurting anyone unintentionally. However, I can completely understand using those words as a battle cry. I’ve done it myself with words used against me. Keep up the good work; I really enjoy your posts. 🙂

    • Welcome, Kerri. Thank you.

If I were to say to you that I pray for success in your finals, and in your writing, I might offend if you thought I was trying to enforcing my beliefs on you, or disrespecting your atheism. I am not.

Also, there is a man who is deeply insensitive, but friendly. He casually outed me: This is Clare, a transsexual just like Annie (!) which irritated me, and yet I can tell he is accepting.

So, yeah. “Unique being that deserves respect”. Mmmm. Rubbing along, in a big world.

      • You don’t have to worry about offending me with offering a prayer. It only offends me when the person has an ulterior motive (like believers that use it as an ending of an argument). I know that isn’t how you mean it and I thank you for the kind thoughts, no matter our differences in beliefs. 🙂

There are quite a few people who don’t seem to understand how things can hurt others when they didn’t mean it. Privilege is a very powerful blinder. I have to work to keep mine in check. I try to always remember that I don’t get a say in what is offensive to the marginalized person.

  3. This is a comment to the https://clareflourish.wordpress.com/2012/06/09/tranny-blog/ admin.. I discovered your “Tranny blog | Clare Flourish” page via Google but it was difficult to find as you were not on the front page of search results. I see you could have more traffic because there are not many comments on your site yet. I have found a website which offers to dramatically increase your rankings and traffic to your website: edited I managed to get close to 1000 visitors/day using their services, you could also get lot more targeted traffic from search engines than you have now. Their free trial and brought significantly more visitors to my site. Hope this helps 🙂 Take care.

Clare: Spam included because of the situational irony.
